Visit NC’s September webinar next week features ‘Mindfulness and Meditation’
For its September webinar next week, Visit NC will be hosting a special session on mindfulness and meditation to help partners learn ways to better focus on the present moment, to fully experience thoughts and emotions without judgment. Led by a trained instructor from WakeMed's Corporate Wellness Program, the tips and techniques discussed in this session will be helpful for reducing stress and enhancing participants’ overall sense of well-being. Participants will also be led through a deep breathing exercise. (Note: This webinar will be held within WakeMed's WebEx platform, as opposed to Visit NC's Zoom platform.) Visit NC PR team pitch leads to Crystal Coast in the spotlight
Travelers seeking a post-peak coastal getaway can take cues from the Forbes.com feature “Exceptional History, Diving At North Carolina’s Crystal Coast
,” the result of a Visit NC PR team pitch. After noting the seasonal appeal of beaches and leisure activities, the writer turned her focus to an underwater world of sunken vessels and marine life. “You can swim along with jellyfish, Loggerhead turtles, octopuses, dolphins, whales, Sand Tiger Sharks, eels, catfish, Seaweed Blennies and Sea Spiders,” the article noted. Forbes.com attracts more than 104 million unique monthly visitors.

Adventure conference attendee touts time in Asheville, Bryson City, Cherokee
The Vancouver Sun showcased Western North Carolina in its “Exploring the ‘other’ half of North Carolina
,” written by a participant in a Visit NC-organized media tour that took place before the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s conference in Asheville this past June. “While the beaches and islands of the state’s coast may be more familiar to Canadians, I’m heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains,” the writer said in the opening. Lodging, meals and activities for the media tour were provided by Explore Bryson City, Cherokee Historical Association and conference host Explore Asheville. The Vancouver Sun attracts more than 2.1 million unique monthly visitors.
Gaster discusses the NC film industry in podcast
NC Film Office Director Guy Gaster was among the panelists for The Broadside’s “The new Southern Hollywood.” The podcast discussed major changes the overall film industry is experiencing, including tax breaks. Listen to the podcast here.

North Carolina has three sites among the nominations for 10Best's Readers' Choice Awards categories for “Best of sports.” Online voting by readers is now open via USAToday.com; click on the hyperlink to vote. Voting ends at noon on Sept. 30.
Durham among '25 of the USA’s most underrated destinations'
CNN included Durham in its “25 of the USA’s most underrated destinations.” The article explained, in part, Few American cities have experienced a more dramatic turnaround over the past 15 years. From its days as a tobacco factory town, Durham has evolved into a science, art, sports and entertainment hub that revolves around a reenergized downtown and reimagined American Tobacco Campus.”
Charlotte: ‘A Hidden Gem for Solo Female Travel’
For the article “Why Charlotte, North Carolina Is A Hidden Gem For Solo Female Travel,” Forbes noted, in part, “ it offers a unique urban experience merging warm Southern hospitality with a wonderfully progressive spirit. As I’ve learned during my recent excursions to North Carolina’s biggest city, Charlotte is a hidden gem in plain sight.” The article included suggestions for where to stay, what to do and where to eat in Charlotte.
The Flat Iron Hotel: ‘Asheville’s Coolest New Luxury Getaway’
Of The Flat Iron Hotel, Maxim noted “This Historic Hotel Is Asheville’s Coolest New Luxury Getaway.” The article explained, in part, “The boutique property resides in a fully restored 1926 Beaux-Arts office building in the heart of Downtown that just opened in the summer of 2024 after an artful makeover. Intimate, immaculate, and packed with surprises and shared spaces to explore, it is the perfect pied-à-terre for discovering what’s new in walkable urban Asheville.”

Featured segments include An Appalachian Summer Festival on the campus of Appalachian State University in Boone; the NC Zoo in Asheboro turns 50 this year, plus a Baboon Experience at the Zoo; the Carolina Canoe Club paddles down the Mayo River at Mayo River State Park in Mayodan; and Springmaid Mountain Retreat in Spruce Pine.
