N.C. Travel Guide Road Show sees unique ideas, strong partner participation Last week's North Carolina Travel Guide Road Show was a huge success, with partners providing strong presentations about what’s new or coming soon to their areas, in addition to what they’re working on promoting. Meetings with DMO partners from across the state took place virtually this year via regional sessions. These provided the Visit NC and Meredith Travel Marketing teams a variety of information on what's new and what's being promoted in the participating partners' areas. Each DMO did a presentation using the PechaKucha format, a timed style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). A Q&A followed if there were questions for a presenter. This is the third year the Road Show has been offered, providing a unique and succinct way for partners to offer potential editorial ideas for consideration for the 2022 North Carolina Travel Guide. Meredith Travel Marketing contracts with Visit NC to produce the North Carolina Travel Guide. For more information about the N.C. Travel Guide Road Shows, contact Dana Grimstead at (919) 447-7761. |

Due to the pandemic, DMO partner presentations and visits to the Call Center have been suspended indefinitely. However, partners can still do virtual presentations for the Call Center and also the N.C. Welcome Centers. Virtual presentations ensure either or both staffs are informed about tourism developments and events for a particular area. Interested DMOs should contact Visitor Services Program Manager Wally Wazanat (919) 814-4649. If an attraction, accommodations or event would like to do a presentation, they should contact their local DMO to discuss arranging a session for multiple tourism partners in the area to participate. |

AH&LA Foundation announces $5 million, 5-year diversity plan The American Hotel & Lodging Association Foundation has announced a $5 million commitment and a five-year plan aimed at enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the industry. A task force created last year with industry executives identified four guiding principals for the new initiative, such as diversifying representation on all employee levels to better serve guests, communities and associates, and elevating diverse and inclusive leaders across different corporate entities, franchisees, properties and networks. The foundation wants to create an industry toolkit to advance diversity, equity and inclusion this year, given that the needs of lodging members vary considering they run the gamut of size and type of lodging. The five-year plan from the AHLA Foundation aims to increase diversity in the industry in which people of color mostly occupy lower-paying entry-level roles and the vast majority of senior managers are white. The American Hotel & Lodging Association has 27,000 members, including 10 of the largest hotel companies, in the U.S., including Marriott, Wyndham, Hilton and Hyatt, and 80 percent of franchise hotels. |
