Activities from the mountains to the coast took the spotlight at Forbes.com in “Discover North Carolina’s Top 6 Outdoor Adventures.” From a list distributed by Visit NC’s PR team, the writer selected soaring with ZipQuest Waterfall & Treetop Adventure in Fayetteville; chasing waterfalls at Gorges State Park near Sapphire; trekking at Whiteside Mountain near Highlands; kiteboarding on the Outer Banks at Cape Hatteras; beach camping at Cape Lookout lighthouse; and scuba diving near Beaufort. A Chimney Rock photo was also featured. “North Carolina is well known as an outdoor adventurer’s dream destination and there’s never been a better time to discover this outdoor oasis,” the article explained. Forbes.com garners more than 61 million unique monthly visits.

Visit NC’s next monthly webinar will provide an update on recently completed research, including the 2021 NC Visitor Profile, the 2021 NC Regional Visitor Profile and 2021 Impact of Tourism on North Carolina. The webinar will also present data from the first few months of 2022, to provide a glance at what can be expected for 2022. This webinar will be on June 9 at 10 a.m. Click here to register.

Research shows return to normalcy at near record levels

 

Despite a contraction in the GDP in the first quarter of 2022, the U.S. Department of Commerce reports that personal consumption went up 1.1 percent in March, with travel and dining a large part of that increase. This correlates with recent research by Destination Analysts that reports that while down slightly from early in the year, American travelers continue to feel optimistic about their financial future.

Most residents are neutral about meetings or conventions being held in their home communities, and the level of those who would be unhappy with a meeting in their home town has decreased significantly since April. About 19 percent now say they would be unhappy, as compared to 36 percent in April.

Raleigh’s Dreamville Festival generated more than $6.7 million from 80,000 attendees

 

J. Cole's Dreamville Festival, held April 2-3 in Raleigh, generated more than $6.7 million in direct economic impact to Wake County, according to the Great Raleigh CVB. The two-day music festival created by the Fayetteville native was attended by 80,000 people this spring, organizers said. Tickets for the festival were sold in all 50 states and 20 countries, and area hotels were booked. Occupancy in Wake County rose to 92 percent on the Saturday night of the festival.

 

The overall impact of Dreamville was actually greater than $6.7 million. VisitRaleigh explained, "It is important to note that the $6.7 million is a conservative estimate that does not include locals’ spending, nor does it include a multiplier of indirect or induced impacts. It represents tourism economic impact only, which is new money coming into the local economy."

Wrightsville Beach among ‘6 Underrated Beach Getaways in the United States’

 

Afar magazine included Wrightsville Beach in its 6 Underrated Beach Getaways in the United States.” The article noted, in part, "consider Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina’s southeast. This laid-back summer destination boasts the energy of nearby college surfers with plenty of scenic views on its four-mile stretch. Go sailing, swimming, or try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding on the Atlantic." The article's "Where to stay" segment suggested Blockade Runner Beach Resort.

June brings the ‘Annual Coastal Guide’

 

For its June edition, Our State magazine features its “Annual Coastal Issue." “Local’s Guide” visits Morehead City; “Restaurant” highlights Amos Mosquito’s in Atlantic Beach; “Bakery” features JP’s Pastry in Benson; and “Drink” checks out Swells’A Brewing in Kill Devil Hills. The June issue is available now.

‘North Carolina Weekend’


For the week of June 2, "North Carolina Weekend” recommends “Family Favorites.” Featured segments include Island Farm in Manteo; Museum of Life + Science in Durham; Mason’s Sweet Shoppe in Union Grove; Aurora Fossil Museum in Aurora; and Nags Head Woods Nature Preserve in Kill Devil Hills. (Check local listings for schedule; segments are subject to change.) "North Carolina Weekend" is underwritten by Visit North Carolina.
