New industry-wide PR Measurement Guidelines released

Destinations International and the International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication (AMEC) have partnered to release the Public Relations Measurement Guidelines Handbook for Destination Organizations. Destinations International is the world’s largest resource for destination organizations across the globe; AMEC is the world’s largest media intelligence and insights professional group.

This first-of-its-kind handbook provides an updated scope of public relations efforts within a destination organization as well as outlining what they should and should not be measuring. It also provides tools for building communications strategies and measuring their success as well as strategies for CMOs and CEOs alike to tie public relations efforts into broader organizational objectives destination-wide.

Visit NC’s Scott Peacock served as the initial chair of Destinations International’s PR & Communications Taskforce and was instrumental in developing the handbook. Visit NC has wholly adopted the recommendations as standard best practices in its own PR efforts. The handbook is available to any destination organization to download.

Visit for Oyster Week October 10-16, the Outer Banks Seafood Festival on October 15, the Duck Jazz Festival, or one of the many other autumn events. Stay in town at the beachfront Sanderling Resort or on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore at the Inn on Pamlico Sound. Research shows working remotely can involve leisure travel, too

According to a recent Harris Poll, more than a fifth of those who want to work remote either partially or full time, desire the ability to travel while working remotely. More than two-thirds of these employees consider the requirement to work onsite an outdated practice.

Deloitte reports that the rise of remote workers, “laptop luggers,” who travel can do more than just expand the number of travelers, but these travelers have above average buying power when compared to those who want to “unplug.” Working while on vacation increases a travel budget by more than twice as compared to 2019. As well, more than half of those working while traveling added three or more days to the duration of their longest leisure trip due to remote working. One in five American travelers reported that they planned to fit some work in during their longest summer trip.

Laptop luggers, according to Deloitte, value comfort, loyalty points and safety more than others when planning travel. They were two times as likely to stay in a private rental for the first time during the pandemic and are one-and-a-half times as likely to continue using them on future trips. Interestingly, they are also interested in saving time while traveling. Fifteen percent are more likely to drive shorter distances than those who choose to unplug while traveling.
