Research shows travel still a high priority, digital sources top list of travel resources

More than three quarters of American travelers express high levels of excitement for travel in the next year, according to recent research by Destination Analysts. While down somewhat from early summer, travel is still a high priority for Americans.

While concerns about the pandemic overall remain high, two-thirds of travelers are still excited about the possibility of travel. More than half remain interested in learning about new and exciting travel experiences.
Confidence in the ability to travel safely still outweighs lack of confidence confirmed by the high level of excitement for leisure travel in the next 12 months (71 percent). North Carolina remains one of the top destinations mentioned by American travelers in terms of domestic destinations most desired by travelers.

N.C. Zoo breaks ground on Asia expansion

The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro broke ground last week on a new 10-acre expansion honoring Asia. The expansion will feature tigers, Komodo Dragons, otters and alligators. It will also include classrooms and areas to get up close to some of the animals, furthering the zoo’s efforts to teach more about conservation. The exhibit is set to open in 2026. The state legislature signed off on $75 million in funding for the project in November, which includes investment for the zoo to start planning its next two expansions, bringing in animals from the Amazon and Australia. Zoo leaders say it’s their dream to make the zoo a multiple-day destination.
